Trained at Chelsea, Refined by Life.
In 1994, I graduated from Chelsea School of Art. I was trained to see the world through colour, texture, and design. Somehow (you know how it happens) I went from my first job at Christie’s auction house, to spending the next 30 years in both advertising and as a business consultant. As family needs grew so did my need to put them first. My roles gave me many opportunities to travel both for work and pleasure around the world. India has always been a second home to me, a place to learn, rest and be reminded about what truly matters in life. England is home, India is my second home.
Now at 53, Teak & Textile is my comeback — curated with a Chelsea eye and the resilience of a survivor. Every piece carries history, heart, and high-level design. If you’ve ever taken a detour, this is for you.
Founded on faith and finished with hope. After a long season of being stuck at home in pain, while I was recovering from a long-term injury and grief of loosing several loved ones. There have been many dark days. I’ve spent the last few years learning the true meaning of resilience. I’m finally stepping out into the light.
Teak and Textile is my way of sharing the beauty I found in the quiet (and lonely) moments of my recovery. Being housebound, my little cottage and village became my everything.
Graduating from Chelsea in ‘94 I was trained during an era of incredible creative energy. Every purchase supports a dream that was decades in the making. I’m so glad you’re here to see it come to life. If your home is your expression and your sanctuary, you are in the right place.
I hope to get to know how you have reclaimed your story and made your house your home. Join us on Instagram and Facebook.
With love Sophie
